MARGARET MCNEIL

"We can't add days to the life of a child, but we can add life to their days."

For children with life-threatening illnesses, BC's Canuck Place Children’s Hospice offers more than just palliative care.
With an approach that 'adds life to their days,' the staff at Canuck Place provides complex care for newborns, children and teens.
"Our care model supports the whole family," says Margaret McNeil, Canuck Place’s CEO. "We provide medical respite, pain and symptom management, end-of-life care and grief counselling. We help over 600 children and families live in the moment."
Founded 20 years ago, Canuck Place physicians and nurses care for over 160 life-threatening diagnoses. In addition to medical care, programs in counselling, recreation and music therapy, education, and art are available to children and families. Services are provided at no cost to the families and Canuck Place fundraises 80 percent of the operating budget.
"The illness and death of a child is unimaginable," says Margaret. "At Canuck Place we believe the end of life should be lived as fully as the beginning."
