MARILYN FIELD

"The arts can empower children and make a postive impact on their lives."

"Given the opportunity, the arts can absolutely empower children, changing their lives for the better," asserts lifelong educator and musician Marilyn Field. Passionate about that transformative potential, Marilyn took a risk, leaving her teaching position and founding DAREarts. Fifteen years later, her revolutionary organization has touched the lives of tens of thousands of children.
"I wanted to do more than reach children from one single school," Marilyn recalls. Focusing on youth from grades four to eight who are challenged by life circumstances, DAREarts brings together students from a range of backgrounds and immerses them in the arts for ten days over two months.
Each one-day session focuses on a different art, from opera and theatre, to ballet and break dancing. "After each session, students then return to their own schools to teach their classmates what they’ve learned," explains Marilyn. "It turns these kids into leaders and gets them excited about education." While DAREarts has inspired so many, Marilyn is quick to point out, "There are still so many children to reach!"
