You’re in wealth management, but you’ve been a busy blogger, too. What’s that about?
I host a podcast called, “I’m a Millionaire! So Now What?” I interview self-made millionaires and wealthy families about inspirational stories and practical advice with a focus on financial planning and wealth management strategies. We tackle succession strategies, family business governance tips, how to cope with fundraiser fatigue, finding your purpose after losing your family business, and much more.

So, if that’s what you’re doing now, where will you be in five years?
Five years ago, I would not have guessed I would be hosting a podcast and presenting regular Elevated Conversation dinner events. I’m embracing every opportunity and listening to my intuition. Check in with me in five years …

Aside from starting new projects, what are your greatest achievements of late?
I was honoured to receive the Distinctive Women Professional of the Year Award in 2014 and 2017. I was also recognized in 2015 and 2016 through the “Women of Influence” feature in Wealth Professional Magazine. I also co-founded and co-host the annual Fore-Play for Charity Ottawa Women’s Networking Golf Tournament for mental health research. Of course, I’m proud to be a wife, mom, sister, daughter, friend and philanthropist — and juggling the flow of it all!

What do your clients say about you?
I asked them to describe their ideal advisor and they said it was me. They said I’m someone who cares enough to ask about what is keeping them up at night, their successes, sources of pride and what makes them tick. I explain what we are doing and why. They say I blend that art of soft people skills with the science of money management.

Where is the industry up to in terms of women’s presence?
There is still an issue with gender gap. And we must also acknowledge privilege based on race, but we also must act. I co-founded an informal group called Women in Wealth in Ottawa, with advisors from the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC). The goal is to bring together peers and competitors to share best practices, commiserate and promote ways to encourage women to consider wealth management as a career. We are in our third year, so watch this space.
